SMS Kelantan as I Remember

This is a collection of stories and old photos of me, friends, teachers and events during my secondary school years (1975-79) at SMS Kelantan, which is now known as Sek Men Sains Tengku Muhammad Faris Putra. The school itself was started in 1973, and moved to the new campus in 1974 (you'll see grassless field in some pix!)

hmm... I hope I got the names right....

I have been meaning to scan this pic (see here) and put it up for show :-)

This is our class photo taken in 1976, while we were in form 2. Some of the boys had grown bigger and taller (while some tried hard to appear so). Compare this picture with the one taken a year earlier.

Before I forget, I want to put in writing here that we are very close to each other, right until now. The bonds that we've created among us are really irreplaceable (spelling??). We try to keep in touch with each other, and meet up regularly. You may want to visit my other site to see some of the rendez-vous, or maybe click on one the following to go straight to the pages (even though most of them are not just exclusive to my class):

Kudos to Mahisham

We also had a grand gathering (for the Class of 1979) with Cikgu Bahar in 2001, but then I had not started blogging yet :-(
I however have some pix of that meeting here.

The Formal Dinners

We use to have formal dinners, which were normally held at the end of the school terms (there were 3 school terms a year, with each consisting 15 weeks).

Some of the dinners were just a slightly elaborated dinners as compared to the ordinary dinners that we used to have, but others could be quite grand whereby all the teachers were invited, and the PIBG (PTA) committee members were there too.

To most students, to see their (daytime) teachers having dinner with them was quite a night.

This picture was taken during the final formal dinner in 1978, where a few teachers received some recognition from the school. Here I was with a fellow friend, Che Nasirah (who now teaches in Kelantan), listening to one of the speeches given out during the function.

And here's the picture of some of the girl prefects with two of the teachers who were given awards for their outstanding services for the year.

From left: Roselina Yusoff, Husnayati, Rosilah, Mr Toh Ah Huat, Mr Lye Kim Yong, me, Nik Rozana and Ruslina Hussein

Both the teachers, Mr Toh and Mr Lye have since retired. I am actually a fan of both teachers, as both of them once taught my class (Integrated Science), and have left an impact on me. Mr Toh taught us briefly in Form 1 before he was assigned to teach the upper secondary classes, and Mr Lye actually taught us all throughout our lower secondary years.

The following year (1979), Mr Toh asked for a transfer back to his home state Perak, and went to the Malay College, Kuala Kangsar. Later I found out that Mr Toh retired a couple of years ago as the principal of Sek Men Anderson,or was it Sek Men Sam Tet, Ipoh. Mr Lye too got a transfer back to his homestate, Melaka, and retired last year (or was it 2005), also as the headmaster of one of the primary schools there (thanks to Google).
